Okay, so this week I am going to move on to a new genre of music. Rap was my starting point seeing as it is my favorite genre, but this week’s genre will be r &b. As I was researching r &b tracks I found a lot of really interesting songs, but I also found out that there aren’t too many blogs dedicated to R&B music and the ones that are don’t really have much to say about the tracks in the reviews. So I decided the first track I will be reviewing is a mixture of R&B and rap.
R&B singer Lloyd Polite Jr., better known as “Lloyd, has been a solo music artist for about 7 years now, which is quite a long time he hasn’t experienced much commercial success but he has definitely made a name for his self. His latest single from his fifth solo studio album, King of Hearts, is entitled “Be the One.”

“Be the one,” is a catchy fast paced song featuring Hip-hop artists Trey Songz & Young Jeezy. The song was just released on May 27th so it is a very new track. Critics haven’t elaborated much on the track. Critics at urbanmusicdirect.com stated “Lloyd links up with Trey Songz and Young Jeezy for this new song titled “Be the one, which tired me out from hearing it after the first verse.” I agree that the song can be a little much, but you have to give it a chance before you just write it off. I’ve seen a mix of mostly average to good reactions to the song from fans on the blog.
The song is a very busy track. It has a very active beat with a lot going on; it draws attention right from the beginning. The lyrics are very elementary, during the chorus he repeats “Girl I wanna be the one, be the one to kiss you goodnight.” I think the song would have been better if there was only one artist featured on the track besides Lloyd, I think he should have used the powerful beat to show case his song writing skills more. Overall I feel as it will do very well on urban radio, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is a good track. I’m not really a fan of the song, but listen and decide for yourself.

I still have not heard this song. Lloyd normally has one good song about every other year. I think a lot of people are waiting for him to have a really good year like Trey Songz (an artist featured in the song), but I don't this he will get there. However, I think it would be really good for the competition in the R&B world. I don't see R&B artist being as aggressive as a Hip-Hop artist, maybe it is not really in their nature.
